A lot of Pre-Raphaelites art and writing is creepy and over-studied because some of the members were creepy and dissolute. A few produced good art, but their poetry is tedious, especially D.G. Roessetti's. Some work of the PRB "associates" was interesting ("Goblin Market" by Christina Rossetti and William Morris's furniture -- lol).
I mean, what they did wasn't necessarily bad or overrated. Millais was pretty good. But the PRBs get too much attention because they were dysfunctional human beings. Anybody who ran around with Swinburne should be avoided on principle.
Siddal's tragic end was almost predictable. Classic case of getting involved with a bad crowd.
