Subject: RE: what the fuck am i reading

I finally saw Tim's Vermeer. Very interesting and persuasive. The ongoing question it raises is whether or not Vermeer was a real artist. I would say yes.

1. Tim took months to create his Piano Lesson using (unavoidably) better equipment.

2. He still couldn't do exactly what Vermeer did. He came extremely close, but Vermeer had more precision.

3. Vermeer came up with the ideas for the pictures. Not just the technical parts, but the composition decisions. How did he know these scenes would work? Because he had an advanced understanding of light and color. Tim could reproduce what he did, but he would never have been able to invent it or decide on the subjects.

4. Even if you call Vermeer a photographer instead of a painter, he was a great artist.
