Subject: RE: FallOut 4

I'm actually a bit curious regarding what effect the piracy of media has on sales. I'm not convinced by the argument that every time something is pirated that it equates to a lost sale. Of the various things I've pirated, none of them were something I would have bought otherwise. In fact, some things I felt were good afterwards to warrant a purchase. Whether the latter thing is common, I don't know, but I'm sure the former is. It's irritating seeing all these companies putting in so much effort into anti-piracy measures in their software which often backfires and affects legitimate customers and only delays pirating which almost always gets cracked eventually anyway. I'd rather see the PC gaming industry take some cues from consoles and back something like a proprietary media drive with integrated security measures than fully go the software route or think it's reasonable for people to download 60GB games.

Consoles have more or less gone back to their microcomputer roots in that they largely resemble the current state of home PCs. Sure, they can be outclassed in terms of performance by a high-end gaming computer, but that's because they cost $400 instead of $1,400. Also, many games are just better with a gamepad anyway, so what's the big deal?
