To me, Doom looks like a movie trying to imitate a first-person shooter. I'm not sure whether that's good or bad.

One thing I liked about Fallout 3 was that you could be out exploring and hear gunfire or explosions off in the distance, and you knew that combat was going on -- it wasn't just ambient sound (I'm looking at you, Obsidian). Bethesda's games are crazy and buggy partly because they wind up their worlds and turn them loose. Sometimes this gets out of hand -- remember the thieves stealing all the food in Oblivion before the AI was adjusted, or how you could get a huge street fight going by using certain spells? What other company's games let you build forts out of cheese wheels? I love this. Love it love it love it.
