RE: UFO's
I don't know if I ever mentioned it here, but around 15 years ago I was at my sister's house along with my dad. He called me outside in the street at night as he was looking up at the sky. He pointed out dots that were about the same brightness as most of the visible stars (there were street lights, so there was a bit of light pollution) which would be in one particular location, then randomly zoom quickly to another spot, each time going in a straight line, but not in the same direction as the previous movement. We had spotted several of these that night. It's been a while, so I don't remember if we stayed out there until they disappeared, but what I do know it wasn't a common aircraft nor a reflection of an orbital satellite. I really didn't know what to make of it.
Several years ago I was thinking about it again, and the possibility it being ground-based lasers (rather than on-orbit sats with lasers) perhaps for atmospheric research, or a 'laser guide star' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_guide_star). It's difficult to find useful information on these such as if their operation would resemble my observation. One thing to note is that if these lasers were located far away from where I was at, even a relatively slow and small movement of the laser itself would appear in the sky as a fast moving point of light covering what appears to be a large distance.
Or..... Sim is right.
