nah, it not stupid, the point of fallout has always been getting the best power armor. its part of the fallout brand.
the armor also allows your character to do more, especially with the jet pack.
cores can be found by exploring, i have a constant 30+ cores in stock, the rate in which i find them keeps up with how much i use them with all nuclear physicist perks. but ive also put over 90 hrs into the game and amassed roughly 25 cores before wearing power armor full time.
keep in mind that ive also been playing on survival mode this whole time.
its really fun, the game will get wild on my ass.
