minions on the otherhand do a good job of fighting, or i should say that monsters will always engage your minion, and never decide to attack you unless you get very very close. its easy to have minions do all the work, monsters really will attack them and never choose to attack you.
but there are several situations i can think of where you will be fucked so hard, it would be impossible to continue with minions. boss fights in tight areas, especially the final bossfight would really screw you over.
its not something you can rely on 100%
minions are very close to being a full-on viable solution for survival, but unfortunately they are not.
and minions are the only realistic defensive option for mage, or anything with specializes in spirit for class mastery points
