the gigabyte board did totally fail though

apparently that specific model had a tendency to randomly eat shit.
not sure why gigabyte wont provide return shipping. it seems these products are priced to accommodate such returns. Z series motherboards cost well over $100-- for mass produced plastic sockets and a handful of capacitors and mosfets thrown onto a lacquered PCB. i mean how much does the z87/97 northbridge cost? $18 per chip in bulk?
yeah, there is no reason for them to scam you when they clearly make defective hardware.. not sure how this is even legal.

but i also wonder why all these motherboards are produced in china.
its almost entirely automated. very few people can operate the entire assembly and production of motherboards. sure, its probably still cheaper to produce this in china, but not by much, really
