The police aren't even involved anymore as they can't be trusted and many in high level positions are involved with the Juarez cartel, so we now have military men in full garb and automatic rifles patrolling the streets and setting up checkpoints in random areas. HAPPY DAYSSS!!!1~
Shootouts between the Juarez and Sinaloa cartels, the military and both cartels are not surprising, but would you believe a shootout between the military and the police? It actually happened about 2 months ago when a patrol car refused to stop at a military checkpoint, both sides traded shots with 4 police officers and 1 military killed, the patrol car was, of course, loaded with cocaine.
Anyway, what most news organizations don't report on is that all the violence is fully contained within the 3 groups, the general populace has been, so far, been left alone. The main problem we're facing now is that a lot of people who would otherwise stay legal are taking advantage of the situation and extorting local businesses, or kidnapping the relatives of doctors, lawyers, etc etc... To hold for ransom. Unfortunately, self defense laws here are downright ambiguous, and defending yourself might end with *you* getting thrown in jail instead of the criminal.
