Doom seems all right for what it is. So you know, developers have tried to make old school shooters, but they don't sell. People want Call of Halo or team shooters or MOBAs. They want cartoony design and checkpoints. If you said you could give them a PC game with sprawling levels, save-at-will, no leveling, no upgrade stores -- if you said that you wouldn't restrict how many guns they could carry and put them all out strategically on a map so that the best players could win by learning the landscape instead of relying on broken matchmaking and over-leveled ganking -- if you tried that, people wouldn't buy your game. If you said they had to use a mouse and keyboard because you didn't port your PC game from your console-tard main product, you might sell a few copies to grizzled old men but you wouldn't be first-world. There's no agenda, just a market.
