gladiator had some nice theme music which really did touch on the ancient spirit of rome. sort of hovers around ancient rome, leading you to a showcase. or like presents a small, but extremely unique, authentic window of ancient rome in a commercial sort of sense.
i find this impressive
also, the relation between maximus and the african gladiator slave was somewhat genuine.
i can imagine a very similar, almost exact copy of this relationship playing out some time in ancient roman history.
or actually there might have been some type of african (non-egyptian) allegiance which was strong and very favorable for rome. which of course has been totally lost throughout history.
