Someone more knowledgeable than I will come along eventually, but I would try to back up my indispensable files on a flash drive, then do a "nuke and pave" reinstallation of Windows (google "clean install of windows").
If you're still using an old operating system like XP, upgrade to Windows 10 when you get a chance and use its security features. The included Windows Defender is probably as effective as McAfee. Sadly, the free Windows 10 upgrade option has expired, but Microsoft will cheerfully accept your money for a new license. You can get it elsewhere -- Amazon, etc. -- but the price is about the same.
