Also, the random attribute requirements/bonuses on gear are crazy. Why do I have to have strength to use a magic staff? Why do staffs grant bonus dexterity? By the way, I never equip anything that inflates attributes. You can see how that would prevent you from switching to something better that requires an attribute number you don't really have, so I leave those alone.
I think this game is ultimately designed for a melee build. Most drop/store gear seems to revolve around this.
