Subject: RE: Computer trouble, urgent!

Programs like McAfee and Norton are invasive and make unusual changes to Windows. The good intention is to burrow into the OS in order to watch/defend more effectively. Unfortunately, this burrowing sometimes leaves debris, like contractors who don't clean up after themselves when they get through remodeling. Norton has gotten much better, but even they have a tool that does a better cleanup job than a default Windows uninstall.

Anyway, since Malware Bytes didn't make McAfee happy, I personally would disconnect from the intarweb, do a clean install of Windows -- or see if you can use your computer manufacturer's disk or restore partition to return the computer to its factor state. If it's not a store-bought computer by Dell or HP or someone and you have a real Windows disk, use that and repartition the hard drive to get rid of stubborn stains and sneaky viruses. Wait to hook back up to the internet until you absolutely have to. Windows will activate Defender automatically. McAfee, of course, will be gone.

Read further on this before doing it if you've never tried it. It's sort of major surgery.
