RE: Titan Quest report
I died for the first time last night on the Silk Road. This was during an encounter with a large neanderthal hero named Barmanu, who was guarding some weapons stolen by some Asian village kid (who, ironically, had stolen them in hopes of defeating the neanderthals -- in other words, the neanderthals took the weapons away from him and I was supposed to return the weapons to the villagers' temple).
Anyway, this guy used some kind of stunning shout and then called down an avalanche, which instantly killed me. I was quite shocked since nothing like this had occurred in all my previous fights with piddly enemies. After dying a second time, I sought wisdom from the intarweb, which was not at all helpful. Mostly, the "tricks" and "tips" were offered by people who were in Elite or Legendary difficulty and involved equipping exotic armor. This armor is not available to players in Normal.
Since this was only a side quest and could thus be bypassed, I was about to leave the area when it occurred to me that I should try one more time and try to use my liche as a distraction. I noticed that if I ran to within a certain distance of Barmanu, he would start throwing his fit and prepare one of his attacks, but I had a little time to run away before getting stunned. As I fled, my liche would rather stupidly remain for a moment and cast some damage. He would then turn around and join me before Barmanu could avalanche him. So all I had to do was patiently repeat this silly process and not die. Which I did.
My liche heroically and rather stupidly whittled Barmanu down until he finally died. The reward, if you're still interested, was crap.
So I guess I will have to be more alert about elite/bossy enemies and maybe give my liche a raise.
