Yeah my AST had a 28.8 when 14.4 was considered top of the line. the modem was the hugest card i have ever seen. full ISA

i had an ATI mach64 with 8mb ram. it even had its own little 3d accelerator, but im not sure if any games used it. the 2d acceleration was however, phenomenal. it gave the GUI and the system a certain "feel"
games like diablo and age of empires really loved it.

but anyway, the best way to recreate these old systems without dealing with stupid hardware is through dosbox.
the emulation is immaculate. it genuinely feels as if you're inside a 486 or pentium pro system. very spot-on emulation with two types of sound cards, full 3dfx and a few other things. installing windows 95/98 is best here. its better than vmware or virtualbox even though dosbox was never designed to run 95/98

there is another build of dosbox, called 'daum' which includes all types of graphics scaling and filters too
