RE: I almost thought I fried my Amiga last night..
there is something magical about first person view melee combat in skyrim.
, with the gamepad of course. i cant explain why the gamepad makes such a difference for melee combat as well, but it does.
the combat is really is good enough to be entertaining; its highly engaging now, it really is. you cant blow through dungeons for them to become a lifeless breeze flowing through your hair or something
ontop of the combat evolved AI/mechanics mod (not duel combat realism, i always get those names confused), i also have attack commit, which prevents you and NPCs from freely turning while swinging a weapon.
there is the high level enemies level scaling mod, and some sound effects overhaul which gets rid of the twang and replaces combat and footsteps, potion sounds and many others with high quality alternatives which sound much much better. although the footsteps are a little loud but the sound is way better.
finally, after the combat evolved and enemy scaling, i fine tune my own custom difficulty settings which involve damage multipliers for the damage you give and receive. editing the damage you received is a balancing act ontop of the combat evolved mod which already changes a bunch of variables. the adept difficulty level which should be 1x received / 1x given is too easy, and the expert level which which multiplies damaged received x2 is too difficult for combat evolved. so i balance between 1.5, or 1.4x. which really keeps the fights heated as all hell.
its gripping. the game nigga.
the skills for sword and board are great in the ordinator perk overhaul.
you barely get enough to keep sinking points into block, heavy armor and one hand (literally swords because you really need that fast attack speed for going wild on niggas asses, you have to time your block and retaliate quickly or they will fuck you up). the perks for heavy armor are a little lifeless, like point fodder, but block and 1h swords, among many other skills are really good.
overall i have many more mods which modify the game in much needed ways. skyrim is really damn good when you know what you're doing. only haters miss out on this good shit.
modded skyrim first person melee combat on a xbox gamepad is the best i know of for any game
