Subject: RE: I've made some important remarks

Fallout 4 has a lot going on and is not as well-optimized as it might be.

Here are the specs.

You can run it pretty well with the required list, but it's much better-behaved using the recommended parts. It's a CPU-intensive title that has to manage a lot of activity, so they aren't kidding with the i7 4790. Before my upgrade, I ran it pretty well with an i5 2500, but a 4790 or better is noticeably smoother.

The graphics are strange. There's little if any difference between medium and ultra settings, but a decent midrange card helps the CPU. I was doing okay with a Radeon 380, though I had some hitches and crashes. I switched to a Geforce 970 and the game loved that. I Live Again was using something quite a lot older than either of these. His graphics weren't very pretty, but the game seemed to run fine for him.

I wouldn't recommend either of these cards nowadays unless you can find them really cheap. Newer midrange products are considerably improved. Also, the 970 has a well-known VRAM limitation that makes it a poor investment at present, though I think it was exaggerated at the time if people were using 1080 monitors.

Here are some recommendations in various ranges.
