It turns out that this is a lousy time to buy video cards. What you should have is a midrange in what would ordinarily be the $250ish category, ideally something like the Radeon RX 480. Merchants, however, are doing some alarming price-gouging, so you would vastly overpay at present.
I don't like to recommend lower-tier cards, but you might see some improvement with a
GTX 1050 ti
or equivalent.
