RE: I've made some important remarks
I broke my purity rule and installed one of the "better" FO4 settlement building mods. "Better" here means that it has a lot of five-star ratings, upvotes, downloads, glowing recommendations, etc.
Following the mod author's instructions as precisely as possible, I started the game. (By "as precisely as possible," I mean that I did my best to read his fractured sentences, missing or misspelled words, etc.)
At first, I was really impressed. The guy had done a lot of interesting things. I was in the midst of adding new doodads to a settlement when I figured out that he had neglected to test certain snapping and collision properties, so some of his goodies wouldn't work. Then I began to notice settlers standing completely still for long periods of time, even in places where I hadn't done any work. Then I noticed that other things didn't work or hadn't been finished properly.
And then, I disabled and deleted the mod. Fortunately, I was able to restore some saves I had made before the installation, and everything was back to normal.
So if you want to know where a lot of Bethesda's tech support problems come from, cherchez la mod.
