ok, after looking at the actual damn part, it quickly became apparent on how a fan clutch actually works. then i actually looked it up
during normal temperatures, the clutch (which is also a thermostatic device) keeps the fan slipping, so it is not being fully rotated by the drive belt. When the clutch gets too hot, or when a computer says its too hot, the clutch then fully engages the drive belt.
this makes more sense considering that gears don't magically create more power.
but the circumference, or area of the drive belt and the clutch itself make a pretty high rotation
