These gender-reversal things are nearly always at a disadvantage when it comes to social commentary. Even the subtlest attempts to say anything might turn away people who otherwise might be attracted by the novelty. The days of second-wave feminism and Mike Stivic as Norman Lear's preachy sock puppet are long over. You can make girl jokes and have a successful buddy-cop comedy (see, e.g., The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy), but you can't talk about police force gender inequities.
