Oh, companions are also being trained in Surgery, Wound Treatment, and First Aid whenever I can spare the points. Also Tactics. Katrin is there solely for Trade. She stays in the back with Jeremus, who gets no points unrelated to healing. Lezalit will eventually become my main trainer and engineer, but I found him pretty late, which worries me a bit. He needs a lot more development. I could have located him earlier, but it's risky for a young player character to visit far-flung towns when big groups of bandits are still extreme threats.

An important thing is that Morale is always Excellent or Very High. I've done well at picking my battles and keeping my men alive. When possible, I give myself points in Charisma and skills like Leadership, Inventory Management, Prisoner Management, things like that. I'm following my usual MO of making my guy a warlord tycoon instead of a bruiser. I have other people to do the fighting. My job is to make money and find battles that generate income/morale/XP while not losing too many units -- all in a bid to create a company that will be sustainable in faction wars. I'm doing pretty well at it so far.
