Subject: Warband Update

Boyar Naldera retired as the Vaegir marshal and was replaced by Boyar Khavel. The difference is day and night. Naldera led us to victory after victory, simultaneously neutralizing two bids to take advantage of our ongoing war with the Nords. The man was everywhere, annihilating sneaky invasions by the Khergits and Rhodoks while prosecuting his own invasion of Nordic lands. The result is that the Khergits and Rhodoks were shamed into peace treaties, and the Vaegirs took EVERY NORD CITY. Every single one. The Nords are a pitiful specter of their former selves, skulking about with ragtag companies trying, with limited success, to loot fringe villages.

I'm surprised to discover myself praising an AI faction lord, but Naldera demonstrates that Taleworlds put effort into creating different personalities, attributes, skills, etc., which are complicated by interesting familial and intra-faction relationships. In contrast to Naldera, Khavel is a hopeless nincompoop. His decisions about sieges are questionable. He has a hard time holding a campaign party together. He's in Places A and B when he should be in Place C. I'll need to look more closely at his relationships and ratings since I can't see his skills. All I can say right now is that he's losing the faction coherence we enjoyed under Naldera, and thus we are on the verge of losing property. More of our villages are being looted. More of our lords are being defeated in battle against the pathetic Nords.

As if to take advantage of Khavel's brain disorder, the Sarranids and Khergits are at war with us while the Nord campaign continues. Khavel simply isn't up to defending two sides of the map. He prefers to roam around his own estates and occasionally make aborted sieges against the remaining Nord castles.

Someone has to step in to stem the Sarranid and Khergit aggression. For it will not stand, man.

Thus, I find myself going back and forth between Khudan and my village, saving hapless Vaegir lords and discouraging village assaults. Thankfully, I used my early-game time to develop a group of 80 top-tier units. I made financial sacrifices so that I could invest in businesses. My income presently exceeds my outgo by a considerable percentage, allowing me to concentrate on intervention. I avoid foolish battles, but when I must pit my men against an army more than three times their number, they win, and they do so with minimal casualties.

I am going to drive the Sarranids and Khergits back to their desert holes, for I am a river to my people.
