You're probably thinking, "Sim, why are you adopting slimy corporate practices? How do you expect to build loyalty if you toy with job security?"
Mercenaries and guards expect no job security. That's why they're mercenaries and guards. They know they're not permanent hires. They know they don't have insurance, vesting shares, or 401k's. My HR people explain this carefully because you can't rely on the tavern temp pool people to clarify these things.
