and those veteran crossbowmen will upgrade to sharpshooters much faster,
with 200 veteran crossbowmen, you will get about 25 "ready to be upgraded" sharpshooters per night of training.
you will always get these 25 additional units every night ready to be upgraded so long as you all keep them as the same veteran crossbowmen group
