Subject: RE: Warband Update Thread 2

We're still at war with the Swadians, which has messed up our map ownage. Boyar Nelag, our new marshal, is doing a good job of taking towns, but he chooses the ones with weird locations, like Yalen (formerly a Rhodok stronghold in the middle of nowhere). He should be going after closer properties so as to keep our presence more contiguous.

While he's off doing this, the Swadians can (and did) take our fringe towns like Khudan with impunity. I was upset about this event, as one of my dyeworks is now under sequestration. I can't take the town back by myself, and I don't have enough Persuasion to talk other lords into helping me assault it. It's perverse that the Swadians have Khudan and we have Yalen. The only real hope is that Nelag or another marshal gets inspired to re-take the town. Ordinarily, I don't like being marshal, but in this case I would welcome the opportunity.

To compensate, I invested in dyeworks in iffy former-Swadian cities. This works temporarily, but I could lose them to other factions -- one reason you want to be contiguous.

To get revenge on the Swadians for the loss of my dyeworks, I took my 78 men and squatted in front of Suno, where half of the Swadian army was gathered -- about 850 men, not counting the garrison. My plan was to cat-and-mouse them, drawing them out and picking them off one company at a time.

This worked with the first company, but I overreached myself thereafter. I was set upon by about 750 guys simultaneously.

In the battle that followed, I was witness to the true power of Swadian knights. Very few got knocked unconscious and almost none died. Battle size was set to 150, but I wasn't stupid enough to turn up the other difficulty settings, which I think are as unrealistic as the lower ones. If you want to pretend that little bumpkin untrained spearmen and raggedy crossbowmen are capable of killing knights left and right, be my guest.

Long story short: we won and thus dealt a serious blow to whatever horror show the Swadians were planning. I also felt better about losing my dyeworks. Meanwhile, Boyar Nelag was busy taking Denhim -- nyuk nyuk.
