RE: Warband Update Thread 2
My faction, the Vaegirs, are at the tail end of a war with the Swadians. I don't know how much more abuse they can take. Their lords are reduced to little 30-man parties who skulk around trying to loot villages. Most of their cities are in our hands. Why do they persist?
Speaking of joke factions, the Rhodoks recently declared war on us. Once again, I can't figure out why. They have maybe one city left and only a handful of lords.
As I may have mentioned, we completely wiped out the Nords. The Khergits and Saranids, thus far, don't seem to be interested in risking their remaining property. I think they mostly beat up on each other anyway.
I almost got another castle last night, but Boyar Kumipa was smarter and faster than I, having seen a weak garrison and striking at the most opportune moment. I say good for him. I probably don't need to be policing another holding right now.
For some reason, Boyar Nelag, our marshal, remains uninterested in taking back Khudan from the Swadians. I'm sorely tempted to give it a try on my own, but I think I would be even more sorely if did.
So mostly I've been chasing down village-looters and incarcerating enemy lords in my castle. I have King Graveth of the Rhodoks in there and am anticipating a nice ransom.
Last night, I was traveling happily back to Rhodok/Swadian lands when my screen flashed a big greeting from some weird Khergit noble. His title was Count Something-or-other instead of the proper Something-or-other Noyan. I blinked and tried to make sense of this anomaly as I read his demand that I halt and surrender. It really did take this long for me to realize that I was being accosted by a Khergit lord who had defected to the Swadians or maybe the Rhodoks -- I didn't pay attention. I was just amazed that he had the temerity to challenge me to a fight. Surely something was wrong with the AI.
And then I noticed that he was at the front of a group of about 350 men. Whu? How could I not have noticed a party of this size heading toward me? I must have been concentrating on whether to upgrade my coat of plates or something. Anyway, there they were, and there I was with my 80 mounted guys. I had no idea what kinds of units this party had, but it was a pretty safe bet they were a diverse group. It turns out that they had some Swadian knights and some respectable Rhodok foot troops, so I was a little concerned.
But they probably hadn't gotten the memo that if you want to defeat an army over four times your size, you call Boyar Wiffle (my character's name). Long story short: I whipped them like the filthy curs they were and chased down any other satellite parties in the neighborhood. However, I made a mental note to be more observant in the future.
I took a handful of permanent losses -- about two Swadian and three Vaegir knights -- because I knew Necro would make fun of me if I didn't turn up the difficulty. It didn't matter. My castle is full of easily trained replacements.
Having sold my loot, bought some sausages, and crammed more lords in my prison, I went back to contemplating my coat of arms upgrade.
