Subject: RE: Warband Update Thread 2

King Yargolek appointed me marshal last night. This was my chance to get Khudan back into Vaegir hands, which I did first thing.

I announced a campaign and was surprised by how quickly the lords assembled. I must be getting more popular. We took Khudan, but the cost was high. Many perished. That did not stop us. Once I had appointed two or three big parties to patrol around the city, I took the remaining forces to Jeirbe Castle and, in an equally bloody siege, restored it to Vaegir ownership. I felt that I had done my bit, so I dissolved the campaign and asked King Yargolek to be dismissed as marshal. He was most gracious about it and quickly appointed Boyar Vlan as my replacement. Vlan is a good man. He'll do great things.

I now own Kelredan and Rhadogir castles, as well as Ambean village. I'm certain that King Yargolek had plans to award me Khudan, but I didn't want it. I had already turned down the city of Tihr and Chide village. At a certain point, if you own too much property, you encounter something called "tax inefficiency." I'm not sure what this means, but it's a negative figure in my budget report. I suppose it signifies an increased tax obligation in relation to increased property acquisition. I imagine it would be offset by the revenues from a city, but really, I didn't want more property to babysit. This becomes an annoying minigame, and I can make more money going after bandits. Also, a city garrison eats into your budget aggressively. I have two garrisons already, which should be enough men under arms for anyone.

I still want to invest in dyeworks or maybe some other enterprise in the Khergit and Saranid cities, so I'll be working toward that. My main concern at the moment is how quiet the Swadians are. This usually indicates the formation of a campaign party. I know that King Harlaus is running around with 439 men. No doubt his more prosperous lords have been working on 150+ parties, many of which have Swadian knights. I need to be getting ready for what I believe will be a massive assault on Vaegir holdings, something our lords are not prepared for with their middling infantries and weak knights.

I suspect that the fate of the Vaegir nation will soon be in my hands.
