I hate traps, except in tactical group games where you have a rogue in the party.
Sneak should be skill-based (i.e., you learn skills to make you quieter or you can see hidey-holes you couldn't see before, etc.), but it should depend significantly on light/shadow and environmental opportunities. I should not be able, in broad daylight, to sneak up on enemies when I'm squarely in their line of sight. On the other hand, enemies should not magically develop impossible sneak detection skills when I'm doing everything right.
