Subject: RE: STALKERs don't need doors

I'm maybe 20 hours into CoC, and I still can't decide if it's worth playing. The world is huge, and despite playing in story mode, it's so open-ended that it's hard to tell how to progress without finding out the hard way by taking on deadly doses of radiation or walking into a snork factory wearing nothing but a loincloth and armed with a bolt. Granted, I'm a pretty crappy gamer and I'm exaggerating a bit obviously, but I have done quite a bit of back tracking, or realized everything I did was for nothing so I reloaded earlier saves. Speaking of saves, it appears to only save part of the world state. For instance, I'll kill some big mutant and save it, then when I load it later, the mutant conveniently comes back to life. It's like a spawn point that's triggered any time that area is re-entered, including if it was entered from a save point. I don't remember if it was like that in any of the vanilla STALKER games.

Certain areas seem underpopulated, and no one likes guitar anymore. I have no idea how to join a faction, or how to make money. I've only managed to make a bit by selling mutant guts to a scientist, which was enough to buy lightly used underwear.

I know I have other gripes that I'm not remembering, but despite all that I'll continue playing the game. Lost Alpha would have probably been more up my alley since I think SoC was the best of the 3 and it looks like the devs took an amazing game and made it better. Too bad it didn't add new areas.
