actually, pies and cakes are three-dimensional objects, ignoring time as a vector.
one could only accurately describe a pie as a circle or a cake as a square if one projects them onto a two-dimensional coordinate system. And even then only if one chooses the correct axis for projection.
Now, consider a spherical cow...
