well see, the reason they shouldnt change it is cause it works out better for everything but that the indices dont perfectly match up with the total number of bits for counting. so if you just remember bit 0, bit 1, bit 2, bit 3,... like you should, you just say "bit 9, or the bit at index 9, is the 10th bit" ...its second nature.
