Every game is going that route after they saw the bajillion dollar cash machine that PUBG and Fortnite became. Everyone joked that the common theme was Battle Royale mode but I think the developers took more note over the model of sticking 50+ players into the same server.
The more people see you, the more you care about your character appearance/stats which ultimately means the more you can make in cosmetics and mods. Or if you're not a greedy EA-type, the more time you pour into the game to progress.
I'm actually very curious about it. Not that I'm a father, but if they create "FallOut Dad Edition" where a player can get mini-doses of the FO experience without having to pour 400 hours into the story I'd play the sh*t out of that assuming it were done right.
They're alienating the story driven FO audience but gaining about 300x the amount of casual gamers that know the name and brand but grew up, got jobs, started families, and only have 5 hours a week to dedicate towards mindless gaming.
