Subject: RE: Shogo MAD review: 2017

I never joined the HL bandwagon. A couple of years or so went by after the hype of HL2 so I finally gave it a try and was left utterly unimpressed. Mind you, at that point it had already been hyped up as the pinnacle of PC gaming which meant expectations were unrealistically high.
I also couldn't care less about the single player or story as online games had really hit their stride at that point and I was busy pouring 3000 hours into Left 4 Dead.

Obviously it's still objectively a good game otherwise it wouldn't have gotten the praise that it did, but it must have been something you needed to experience at the time as it felt pretty dated when I attempted a play through. I still don't understand the appeal of the gravity gun. It throws things. I'm guessing that was a new innovation at the time, to toss game assets around that can cause damage like that... but, I mean... it's still a bit impractical and dumb.
