RE: mountain lions
By the way, my megamelon would not have the same vine spread as the in-game ones. Bethesda's melon-to-vine proportion is about 1:3. When you factor in the problem of collision, you have an oversized object with an unforgiving horizontal plane that won't sink. Since most surfaces in settlements are on a slope or have some other inconvenient idiosyncrasy, your vines almost always float above the ground unless you use the pillar glitch. For half a unit of food, this is unacceptable.
My melon will reduce the spread ratio to 1:2 at most. I might even go so far as 1:1.5. This may seem unrealistic, but so is a car-sized melon.
This, I believe, will address the inherent space problem, as well as the planar issue. In fact, I'll probably make the whole thing a sinkable object, which will obviate the usual required glitch.
The more I think about it, the better this idea becomes. Traditional agriculture will become a thing of the past. In every way, this melon will be superior.
