Subject: Idris Elba as James Bond? Yes yes

Elba is probably the coolest male actor alive and would do great credit to the role. The guy just exudes power and has the best voice since Connery.

If I had to rank Bonds, beginning with my favorite and ending with my least favorite, I would do this:

Connery
Craig
Dalton
Moore
Brosnan
(won't count poor Lazenby)

Connery is the definitive Bond and made a lasting impression in Dr. No and From Russia with Love. Starting with Goldfinger, things got rather silly and continued in this vein until Craig (and screenwriters) basically reinvented the character.

I never cared for the Roger Moore Bond, but upon recently watching some of the movies on cable, I have modified my view somewhat. He was okay, I guess -- a sort of Bond for the Reagan/Thatcher crowd.

Brosnan was awful as Bond. He posed in every shot. I couldn't tell whether he was trying to be Bond or an Arrow shirt model. I kept trying to pay attention to what he was doing, but all I could think about was how his face contorted into cool, in-control expressions like one of those discriminating men of the world in luxury car commercials. Connery managed to look convincingly cool, but Brosnan never did.

Dalton was underrated and should have made at least a couple more movies.

Craig was an excellent Bond for the 00's. I liked the whole flawed, caged-animal thing. I also believed the action shots. If Bond really existed, he would be the Craig Bond.

Elba would carry on the Craig energy and power while adding back in Connery's poise, which no later actor ever managed to pull off successfully. And he would have the best voice since Connery.

If Elba takes over the series, it would be the best call since Judy Dench got shot in Skyfall. Thankfully, the shooting was just make-believe. You don't do that to National Treasures.
