I obsess about settlement happiness -- not because it's some Sim City thing, but because it affects money. I don't know how this works. Somebody probably knows the formula. All I know is that a happy settlement with a good market nets me about 3,000 caps a week. This is all you have to do to make money in FO4 -- just make happy little communities and go around collecting from them. In short order, you'll have more money than you can possibly spend. All I ever buy are building materials and guns for the settlers. I usually have about 500k and never less than 400k. Maybe somebody makes a mod that will let me buy Diamond City.
