Microsoft seems to be trying
They've now acquired Obsidian and InXile on top of the acquisitions they've made earlier this year (Playground Games, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, and some other lesser known ones).
They seem to have nailed the play anywhere aspect well in that any game you buy for the Xbox can be played on any Windows based PC and vice versa.
They're finally implementing official support of mouse/keyboard use for Xbox users so that FPS can finally be playable on the console again.
And Gamepass actually feels worth it so long as you find more than one game you enjoy on it every few months. At $10 a month I bit the bullet and gave it a shot. It's still in that early Netflix stage of not having a ton to play, but I've missed out on the last Tomb Raider, Doom, Wolfenstein, and Fallout 4 and all of those are part of the catalogue along with the fact that it's getting a lot of day 1 AAA releases as well. Though the only reason I got it is because I heard Hellblade is coming to it next month and I've been meaning to play that.
Good on Phil Spencer for actually attempting to compete next generation. By 2020 they'll be able to launch the next iteration of hardware while combining it with a decent list of exclusives based on their acquisitions, and I'll get to play them at $10 a month against you dicks with their play anywhere model and not be totally obliterated due to using a console controller.
