One of the best outcomes of this farce is Bethesda's response. As an apology for what amounts to a bait-and-switch, they're offering 500 atoms to unhappy recipients. In case you don't know, atoms are the credit unit they use in their official Atom Store, a main feature of Fallout 76. Here, you can buy things like hats, door mats, skins for your PipBoy. Since some of the hats, mats, potted plants, and other objects you got for free in FO4 sometimes cost $5 (about 500 atoms) or more, I think this is a generous solution that shows how much Beth cares.
