The online economy stuff astounds me given that EA just learned a hefty pay-to-win lesson with Battlefront 2. I think a lot of companies thought they could get away with the "frog in a boiling pot" technique of slowly increasing and introducing these mechanics over time, and for the most part they did and things got gradually worse without actually impacting sales, but it would appear the gaming community does have a threshold for what they're willing to endure.

The funny part is how unnecessary it is. Rockstar literally made billions off of the GTA5 online community. They could have priced things out exactly the same for RDR2 and nobody would have complained though they may have rolled their eyes. Instead it's like they were trying to triple those numbers immediately.
