Obsidian's new game
I was only able to find out that Obsidian is working on a new game. People speculate that it will be sort of Falloutesque, but not much else is known except that it may have space guns.
I bring this up not because I'm excited but because I'd like to remind everyone of a few things:
1. Obsidian has a less than stellar track record. Their games are buggy and almost always under-deliver.
2. Fallout: New Vegas was an okey-doke game. It had as many bugs as (and maybe more bugs than) Fallout 3. Whereas FO3 had actual ambient events, New Vegas had ambient sounds you could chase down, only to discover that no events accompanied them. Whereas FO3 had interesting clutter, New Vegas had . . . not very interesting clutter, and you couldn't interact with a lot of it. New Vegas also relied a lot on traps, the cheap refuge of mediocre RPG developers.
3. I won't even talk about KotOR 2.
3. I won't even talk about Pillars of Eteerrrnity.
I don't know why Obsidian benefits from the myth that they outdid FO3. They flatly didn't. People bring up the depth, the role play, the crafting, etc. Sorry -- I was there, and none of that stuff was especially great in New Vegas.
My point is: expect not much. It's Obsidian.
