About the Paulson waste basket thing:

Two senators were nearby and offered to call a doctor, but Paulson emphatically disallowed this. At that moment, they understood. The market was so volatile and broken that a doctor couldn't be called. Nor could any of them talk about it. Without having to be told, they all silently vowed never to say a word to anyone, not even their closest family members.

One whisper about this would completely obliterate any remaining faith that the problem could be fixed.

One wonders how far they were willing to go. What if a bear had attacked Paulson? What if the bear were eating his foot? Would they call a park ranger? Could they convince Congress and Wall Street that the attack had nothing to do with the financial catastrophe? Would it be misconstrued as a connection to a BEAR MARKET?

Get it? A bear market?

See, that was funny because of the bear.
