The 2019 Insanity Award goes to
whoever thought a movie version of Downton Abbey would be a good idea.
How will this work? Is there anyone on the planet who doesn't know everything about the characters?
If someone told me I would have to make a movie out of Downton Abbey, I could only go in one of two directions.
1. A sequel
2. A prequel
I suspect they'll do a sequel with an emphasis on the decline of the aristocracy and the commencement of World War II. The main plot will probably center around Lady Mary resisting the Nazis or something.
A prequel would be better for emotional impact. You could show how Lord and Lady Grantham met and end with the birth of Lady Mary. That's how I would do it, but I would have to leave out most of the series cast during the better part of the movie, which would cause people to leave flaming bags of excrement on my porch.
Well, it would be a ready-made box office success no matter which direction I went. People wouldn't care about the plot as much as whether I got the place settings right.
