You're giving him too much credit; the truth is much simpler.
He has a problem with not being the center of attention. This is why he has problems with dialogue...he thinks listening to someone else is removing that attention from him.
This always made phone conversation awkward with him, but not as awkward as when he would argue with him mom during the middle of a conversation. I'm not sure what exactly he was arguing about, but it was likely something about cleaning his room/asking for money/wondering where his chocolate milk was.
The reason he's so mad at me is because I ignored text messages/hung up the phone on him. It's all because of attention.
