Subject: Pacing: a good or bad thing

When the weather permits, I walk a lot. I walk for exercise, for sunshine, fresh air, etc. Unless I need to transport something (e.g., groceries), I walk pretty much everywhere. I have to remember to drive my cars around to keep the batteries charged. I just like to walk.

Of late, this walking thing has crossed over into my sitting life. I can't just sit and watch TV or whatever. I have to get up and pace. I'm wearing out my carpet. Something is telling me that it's wrong to sit more than twenty minutes. I worry that it's becoming a compulsion.

All of which brings me to a question I ask myself from time to time: is pacing exercise? Does it count? Or is it just a nervous tic, something unhealthy -- a sign of a diseased mind?

I've only ever seen people pacing in old movies and cartoons. They're always worried or anticipating something. I'm not especially anxious about anything. It's just a habit. Should I force myself to sit more, if only to preserve my carpets?
