RE: Madcows (and other motor heads)
A battery replacement would be in order in the not so distant future for a hybrid vehicle. Their fuel economy is decent in the city (still not as good as many diesels, though), but highway mileage would be improved if it didn't have all the extra weight of the batteries, electric motor, and support junk. In reality, I don't think city mileage would be significantly worse without the hybrid stuff, though it might be a bigger slug "off the line" than it already is.
I hate the current adaptation of hybrid technology. The real promise is in "series" hybrids, but all manufacturers perusing that path are not taking advantage of the possibilities. Instead, everyone is talking about this plug-in horse shit. It's funny how strained cali's current power grid already is - they even want to ban certain types of TVs, but they're promoting rechargeable cars?! Yeah, if they don't have enough juice for a TV, I really doubt they have enough for thousands of plug-in cars. Retards.
About a year or two ago, I saw a prius driving around with a "FK OPEC" license plate. Yeah, he was really sticking it to The Man, with his slightly below average fuel consumption. What on earth would they do with a world full of hybrids? Oh yeah, still make a shit-ton of money. He would have been better off saving that license plate for a diesel running on used vegetable oil.
If there's any significant hope for parallel-type (prius) hybrids, it would be in the forum of VW's diesel/electric concept. Then we're talkin 70+ MPG worth of sticking it to the man.
