RE: Finished reading The Demolished Man
The Demolished Man is worth reading if you don't mind the pulp style it's written in. This book is apparently one of the main sources of the cyberpunk kind of dystopia, where the world is ruled by corporations rather than some communist or fascist party, so you may want to read it if you're into that kind of thing.
Note: my opinions about SF may not be representative of SF fans in general, as I've never much liked Golden Age style SF, or hard SF where the engineering ideas get a lot of space.
My favorite SF author is probably Jack Vance. His stories are more in the vein of adventure stories, set in exotic societies, with a lot of ironic dialogue. He's written a lot of books, and except for some weaker early works, you can't really go wrong with any of them. A good place to start might be the Demon Princes series.
