RE: Now I've beaten Quake
Quake was my first "3D" game. I thought it was interesting that I could see the sides and backs of monsters. This (along with the final boss battle in Duke Nukem 3D) prompted me to learn circle-strafing. I thought at the time that this gave me an unfair advantage over enemies. It was worse in Quake 2. That was the only game I ever played on Hard skill because anything lower was so easy I couldn't stand it.
A big feature of Redneck Rampage was the music, but I could never get it to work. So there were these long stretches of silence broken only by gunfire, chicken squawking, and Burton Gilliam's wonderfully funny voice acting. I couldn't decide whether this added to or subtracted from the ambiance.
