That reminded me of the terrible time the balljoint on my old car broke on the highway, and of course necessitated replacing the whole control arm because manufacturers are assholes. It should have been simple enough, since there was only one longitudinal bolt, and one vertical. But the car came from michigan so the longitudinal bolt corrosion welded itself to the metal sleeve in the control arm bushing. The sawzall took care of that but only after buying an expensive blade. I don't remember what the exact deal was with the vertical bolt, but for some reason I had to partially unbolt the subframe and break a few corroded bolts which I wasn't going to replace. All that just because the manufacturer pressed the balljoint into the control arm to save a few bucks.
